Wike bags ‘Outstanding Person In Governance and Infrastructure’ Award by Leadership Newspapers

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has been chosen by the Leadership Newspapers as its Quinquenial Award of Outstanding Person in Governance and Infrastructure for the Year 2024.

The award is held once in five years.

A letter conveying the award notification, dated January 13, 2025, and signed by the Senior Vice Chairman and Editor-in-chief of Leadership Newspapers, Azubuike Ishiekwene, was presented to the Minister on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

Mrs Zainab Nda-Isaiah, Chairman of Leadership Group, led the Management Team comprising of Mr. Ishiekwene and the Senior Director, Adverts, Fadilah Ismail.

The letter read: “On behalf of Leadership Group, I have the pleasure to convey to you the decision of our Nomination and Selection Committee, which met on the 29th of October 2024 and attended by our senior editors, top management and members of Leadership Advisory Board, which chose you as Quinquenial Award of Outstanding Person in Governance and Infrastructure for the Year 2024 as earlier announced on our platforms.”

Stating reason for the award, the letter read further, “Amid several nominees with excellent credentials, you have been selected for this prestigious award for your consistent record of achievement in ensuring massive development through the provision of infrastructure for both rural and urban dwellers wherever you govern, which has earned you the nickname ‘Mr Project’s, the selection board found you most qualified as Quinquenial Award of Outstanding Person in Governance and Infrastructure for the Year 2024.”

The award ceremony comes up on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at the Banquet Hall, State House, Aso Villa, Abuja.

Accepting the award, the FCT Minister thanked Leadership Group for founding him worthy of the honour.

In a statement by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Wike assured that he will continue work for the benefits of the people.

“When I was governor, Leadership Newspapers also gave me an award. I sincerely thank you.

“For us, there are no excuses. Mr President has given us this opportunity and we must do everything possible to make sure that our people are happy.

“Mr President has given us all the supports that we requested for to enable us do our job. For us therefore, there is no excuses. We have to do our jobs.

“I want to assure that we will not relent. Rather, this award will spur us to do more. God willing, by the time Mr President finishes his first tenure, everybody would have been able to see that he came prepared and he meant well for this country.”
