Wike: Obi, the hero, stopped North from retaining power

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, stopped the North from retaining presidential power after 8 years regime of President Muhammadu Buhari who is from the northern part of the country.

Wike, who described Obi as the hero of the February 25 presidential election, said had the former governor of Anambra State not contested the election, the North would have retained presidential power.

The governor stated that the states where Obi recorded victories would have been won by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), thereby retaining power in the North.

He said this while speaking with some traders in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Saturday.

Governor Wike said: “Obi is my hero. If Obi did not contest, power would have gone back to the North.

“The whole of South-South and South-East that PDP lost, if Obi did not contest PDP, they would have won.

“The hero in this election is Obi whether you like it or not. I am not here to please you. Obi is the hero. He may not have been pronounced as the winner, no problem, the law will take its course.

“If Obi did not run this election, power would have remained in the North. Whether he is declared a winner now or not, history will be on his side that he fought and fought well,” he stated.

The governor, who debunked allegations of working against Obi in the presidential poll, stressed that he had no reason to work against the LP presidential candidate when he and other G5 governors advocated for southern presidency.

Wike, therefore, urged the traders to vote for the PDP in the March 18 governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.
