The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed the demolition of an illegal residential estate constructed on land designated for Park and Recreation in Guzape, Abuja, and announced plans to revoke all approvals granted to the developer.
Wike made the revelation on Monday, March 16, 2026, during an inspection tour of ongoing projects across the territory.
He emphasized that the FCT Administration (FCTA) would strictly enforce planning regulations and protect Abuja’s master plan.
“This land was allocated for Park and Recreation, not for estate development. This is a clear violation, and we will not allow it,” Wike said.
He added that the government would enforce regulations regardless of who is involved, warning that developers attempting to exploit bureaucratic loopholes or collude with insiders would be held accountable.
The minister cited a recent demolition of illegal structures on land assigned to foreign embassies in Katampe as an example of the administration’s resolve, adding that affected diplomatic missions had been contacted to reclaim their properties.
Wike noted that the FCTA has budgeted funds specifically for development control activities, including the demolition of illegal structures across Abuja.
While enforcement actions were a key focus, the minister also inspected major road projects in the territory, which are expected to be inaugurated during the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Among the projects visited was the road linking Renewed Hope City in Karsana to Kubwa, being executed by Lubrik Construction, which has made significant progress. He also inspected the Arteria N16 interchange project from Ring Road 2 to Ring Road 3 connecting Jahi and Gwarimpa, praising the quality of work and confirming completion is expected by the end of May.
Additionally, Wike visited the Airport Road–Kuje highway, constructed by Arab Contractors, where the final beam of a major bridge is being installed. He noted that the project would enhance connectivity between Abuja and Kuje, easing commuting for residents.
The minister also checked progress on a 13-kilometre road linking Kuje to Gwagwalada, being executed by Gilmore Construction. The project is divided into two segments, with the first segment near completion.
“Road construction is central to our transportation strategy in the FCT. Good road infrastructure makes transport efficient and opens up communities,” Wike said, reiterating the administration’s commitment to enforcing planning laws while delivering key infrastructure.
