The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to provide essential infrastructure in the newly created Waru-Pozema District to enable residents and developers to begin development in the area.
Wike disclosed this on Thursday while speaking with journalists after inspecting several ongoing projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
The minister said the administration would work with relevant agencies to determine how best to provide basic infrastructure in the district, located in Cadastral Zone D16.
According to him, the administration would consult the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and other departments to establish the next steps, including whether the project is included in the 2026 budget.
“About the new district of Waru-Pozema in Cadastral Zone D16, we have to find out from the FCDA or the coordinator what they have in mind and whether it is in the 2026 budget,” Wike said. “Don’t worry, we will do everything we can to provide the needed infrastructure and open up the district so that people can move in.”
During the inspection tour, the minister also expressed satisfaction with the progress of several judicial infrastructure projects.
He revealed that contractors handling the Court of Appeal of Nigeria complex had assured that the project would be completed by May. Wike added that the judges’ quarters, including the section for the Federal High Court of Nigeria, had already been furnished.
According to him, the housing project includes 10 duplexes for the Federal High Court, 20 duplexes for the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory and another 10 duplexes for the Court of Appeal.
He noted that the facilities are expected to be inaugurated during the third anniversary of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria’s president.
The minister also inspected a major road project in Katampe District, describing it as functioning like a ring road, and commended the contractor for the speed and quality of work.
Wike praised China Geo-Engineering Corporation for its reliability, noting that the company had consistently delivered on its commitments.
“It’s one of those companies—when they give you their word, you can go to the bank with it,” he said.
He also commended officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority for effective supervision of projects under the leadership of the Acting Executive Secretary, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda.
Speaking on his frequent inspection visits, Wike said his motivation comes from a desire to deliver on the mandate entrusted to him by President Tinubu.
“For the President to have confidence in you and give you an assignment, you have no choice but to be committed to the job,” he said.
On national politics, Wike called for unity within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing that reconciliation within the party must come before discussions about future electoral strategies.
He expressed optimism that the party could remain competitive if members pursue reconciliation sincerely, noting that attention is currently focused on the party’s forthcoming national convention.
