Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital
Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched a scathing attack on Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, Interim Spokesperson of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), blaming him and others for the misfortunes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a fiery statement issued on Thursday, Olayinka accused Abdullahi and his allies of selfish political ambition, claiming their “greed and desperation for power” are the real reasons behind the decline of the PDP, not the actions of his principal, Nyesom Wike.
Responding to recent comments by Abdullahi — who accused Wike of aiding in the destruction of what was once Africa’s most powerful political party — Olayinka said Abdullahi’s history of political defection and self-serving decisions disqualified him from preaching political morality.
“Was it Wike who made Abdullahi leave the PDP in 2014 after falling out with Bukola Saraki, the man who brought him into political relevance?” Olayinka asked.
He went further to recall that Abdullahi, despite serving in various high-profile roles under the PDP and later the APC, had a record of abandoning parties when his personal ambitions were not fulfilled. “Why did he leave the APC as its National Publicity Secretary in 2018? Was it also because of Wike?” Olayinka queried.
The FCT minister’s aide said Abdullahi’s multiple political failures — including his inability to clinch the PDP governorship ticket in Kwara State in 2019 and losing the 2023 senatorial election — showed he lacked political appeal and had become a “political liability.”
He dismissed the newly formed opposition coalition led by Atiku Abubakar and other prominent political figures as a self-serving alliance aimed at grabbing power, rather than rescuing democracy, as they claim.
“How can individuals like Atiku Abubakar, whom even his former boss Obasanjo described as patently corrupt, and Nasir El-Rufai, promoter of ‘body bag’ politics, be taken seriously as defenders of democracy?” Olayinka asked.
He also took swipes at Rotimi Amaechi and Dino Melaye, describing them as desperate and discredited politicians.
According to Olayinka, the coalition is nothing more than “a gathering of frustrated politicians who are angry they no longer have access to power.”
He concluded by urging Abdullahi to be honest with Nigerians and admit that their coalition is driven by personal ambition, not national interest.
“Let Abdullahi and his coalition of confusion stop lying to Nigerians. They selfishly want power for themselves and their cronies, but too bad, they won’t get it,” Olayinka declared.
