Wike slams PDP chair: Anyanwu isn’t your appointee, he has been working

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has faulted the Peoples Democratic Party’s directive that the PDP National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, should resume duty.

Wike described the directive by the PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, as ignorance of the law.

Wike stated this during the inauguration of the newly constructed Interchange that linked Wole Soyinka Way (Arterial Road N20) to Murtala Mohammed Expressway in Abuja on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

Damagum had, in a press conference on Wednesday, announced the reinstatement of Anyanwu as the PDP National Secretary.

Damagun further directed Anyanwu to resume duty.

But Wike, who faulted the directive, said Anyanwu had been doing his work, stressing that it was wrong for the party chairman to ask him to resume.

The minister stated: “When I was coming, I watched on national television, and heard when the acting National Chairman of the PDP was directing the National Secretary to resume.

“The National Secretary is not your appointee and had been doing his work. So, you can’t call him to resume.

PDP affirms Wike’s ally Samuel Anyanwu as national secretary

“The National Secretary has been working and will continue to work. He doesn’t require anybody to direct him to resume work.

“It is because of your ignorance of the law. Too bad, too bad. The law does not recognize ignorance. That you are ignorant of the law, is not an excuse.”

Wike also wondered why the party had to go to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for directions to obey Supreme Court judgement.

The minister added: “You see, when you shoot yourself, you will say it is somebody that shot you. Continue to shoot yourself. I will not be a party to those that will shoot myself.

“When you don’t know something, ask the right person. Forget ego, if you want to learn, come and meet us, we will teach you how to go about it.”
