Wike urges unity, peace as Abuja residents celebrate Eid-el-Fitr

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has extended warm Eid-el-Fitr greetings to residents of Abuja, congratulating Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.

In a message marking the 2026 Eid celebration, Wike described Ramadan as a period of spiritual renewal, self-reflection, and compassion, urging residents to sustain the values of unity, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence beyond the holy month.

He commended Muslims and non-Muslims in the FCT for demonstrating solidarity and generosity during Ramadan, noting that their conduct reinforces Abuja’s reputation as a centre of unity, peace, and harmony in Nigeria.

The minister also called on residents to use the festive period to pray for Nigeria’s continued peace and progress, especially as political activities are expected to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He assured that the FCT Administration would provide a conducive environment for peaceful and orderly political engagements.

Wike further urged residents to maintain peaceful conduct regardless of political, ethnic, or religious differences, drawing inspiration from the discipline and unity exhibited during Ramadan.

He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which he said has improved socio-economic conditions and strengthened security in the nation’s capital.

Reassuring residents of their safety during the celebrations, Wike said security agencies are working round the clock to ensure a peaceful and orderly Eid festivity across the FCT.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property while continuing efforts to develop Abuja into a world-class city.

The minister concluded by praying for the acceptance of Muslims’ fasts and good deeds, wishing all residents a peaceful and joyous Eid celebration.
