Windstorm damages NYSC orientation camp in Niger

A heavy windstorm has caused partial damage to structures at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Paiko, Niger State, leaving two children with minor injuries.

The incident occurred on April 25 at about 8:00 p.m. when strong winds accompanying a downpour brought down parts of the camp infrastructure.

Police personnel were immediately mobilised to the scene to restore order, while corps members were evacuated from affected areas. No fatalities were recorded.

Two girls — Fati Abdul, 12, and Adewumi Adesola, 11 — sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Both were taken to a medical facility, treated and discharged.

The sources said normalcy has since been restored at the camp, which remains under observation to ensure the continued safety of occupants.
