Woman, 2 children escape death as vehicle rams into building

A woman and her two children have escaped death after a vehicle rammed into their living room in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State.

The Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu, confirmed the incident via a statement on Monday, December 30, 2024.

Shiisu disclosed that the incident occurred at about 12 a.m. on Monday.

Shiisu said the incident occurred at Elpies Street in Dutse after one Muhammad Galadima and Abdullahi Abubakar rammed into the building in a suspected case of drunk driving.

He stated that the duo driving one Toyota Corolla car rammed into the living room of the residential building.

“As a result, both the vehicle and the entire house were engulfed in flames, affecting three other neighbouring houses that were burnt to ashes,” the police spokesman said.

Shiisu said a team of policemen rushed to the scene and evacuated the victims to a nearby hospital.

The police spokesperson added that the fire was extinguished by the combined efforts of firefighters and some residents of the area.

Shiisu noted that both suspects and the vehicle had been taken into police custody for further investigation, after which they would be charged to court.
