World Cup: Bellingham inspires England’s comeback win over Norway, sets up Argentina showdown

Jude Bellingham delivered another match-winning performance as England came from behind to defeat Norway 2-1 after extra time on Saturday, securing a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

England endured a difficult start at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, with Norway taking a surprise lead through Andreas Schjelderup in their first-ever World Cup quarter-final appearance.

The Three Lions gradually settled into the contest and were rewarded just before the break when Bellingham produced a brilliant finish to draw his side level.

The goal added to the midfielder’s impressive tally after his brace in England’s dramatic last-16 victory over Mexico.

Norway thought they had reclaimed the lead in the second half, but celebrations were cut short after the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) ruled out the effort for a foul by Erling Haaland in the build-up.

The two sides remained deadlocked at the end of regulation time, forcing the tie into extra time.

With penalties looming, Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland made a costly error that Bellingham punished clinically, netting his sixth goal of the tournament to send England into the last four.

The victory keeps England’s title hopes alive and earns them a blockbuster semi-final clash against defending champions Argentina on Wednesday, with a place in the World Cup final up for grabs.

For Norway, the defeat also ended Erling Haaland’s remarkable run of scoring in 14 successive competitive matches for his country. The striker was substituted during extra time after an energetic display as England’s resilience ultimately proved decisive.
