‘Worst senator in Adamawa’: Group slams Abbo, calls for arrest after court sack

A group, the Adamawa Inter-Party Coalition, has berated Senator Elisha Abbo over claims that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, influenced the judgement of the Court of Appeal that sacked him from the Senate.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja had, on Monday, October 16, 2023, sacked Abbo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker representing Adamawa North Senatorial District.

The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a Certificate of Return to Rev. Amos Yohanna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the duly elected lawmaker for the senatorial district.

He later alleged that Akpabio had a hand in the court judgement against him, an allegation denied by the Senate President.

However, the Adamawa Inter-Party Coalition said Abbo conducted himself recklessly in the Senate for over four years, adding that Adamawa State produced him as the “worst senator” in the history of Nigeria.

The group, in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Secretary, Peter Jacob, called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to “quickly” go after the lawmaker before he escapes out of the country.

It stated: “Although we understand the need to hide under the guise of religion ahead of the 2023 elections, Sen. Abbo drove home the message of his disappointment by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the choice of his running mate to gain sympathy votes.

“But what we still cannot comprehend is the fact that it is this same Abbo who condemned the Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 elections who brazenly stood against the emergence of a Christian Senate President in favour of another Muslim Senate President that, thankfully, came to grief.

“We would like to call on Abbo to list his achievements as a Senator for four years.

“He had done more harm than good to his constituency. It is on record that the first constituency project executed by Abbo was at a sex toys shop where he brutally assaulted a lady store attendant. Abbo has dented the hard-earned image and the reputation of the good people of Adamawa North Senatorial District.

“To us, the court judgement came as good news because Abbo didn’t win his election in the first place. Abbo has been enmeshed in countless scandals and now we are relieved of this tortuous embarrassment. His political party is never an issue. But the future has a way of rewriting the result of the past.”
