Xavi barred from Barcelona legends matches amid election fallout

Former Xavi Hernández has reportedly been prevented from featuring for the FC Barcelona Legends team following disagreements linked to the club’s recent elections.

According to reports from Diario AS, Xavi requested permission to participate in the Barcelona Legends’ final two matches but was denied the opportunity by the club.

The report claims the decision is connected to Xavi’s stance during the recent club election process, with sources indicating that the former midfielder has been informed that he is currently “not welcome” to take part in the Legends fixtures.

The development has reportedly left Xavi frustrated, given his long-standing association with Barcelona both as a player and former head coach.

Despite the reported ban, Barcelona is said to view the matter as temporary and expects the situation to be resolved over time.

Neither Xavi nor Barcelona has publicly issued a detailed statement on the matter.

Xavi is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the club’s history, having won numerous domestic and international titles during a trophy-laden career at the Camp Nou before later returning to manage the first team.

The reported exclusion has sparked debate among supporters, with many questioning whether differences arising from club politics should affect the participation of one of Barcelona’s most celebrated figures in Legends events.

While the club maintains that the situation is not permanent, the controversy has added another chapter to the evolving relationship between Xavi and Barcelona following his departure as head coach.
