Yilwatda to PDP govs: Join APC or face electoral loss in 2027

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has urged governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to defect to the ruling party or risk losing their political relevance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yilwatda gave the warning on Saturday in Jalingo while presenting the APC flag to Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, at a ceremony marking his defection to the party.

He said remaining in the PDP could jeopardise the governors’ political futures, describing the opposition party as weak and incapable of guaranteeing electoral success.

According to him, Governor Kefas’ decision to leave the PDP for the APC was a strategic move that would better position Taraba State to benefit from alignment with the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu.

He maintained that joining the APC would open the state to more opportunities, projects and support from the centre, adding that more politicians would soon realise the advantages of identifying with the ruling party.

Yilwatda welcomed Kefas into what he described as the “largest political family” in the country and called on other PDP leaders to follow suit, warning that staying back could cost them their seats in the next election cycle.
