The Zamfara State Government has announced its readiness to recruit 2,000 English and Science subjects teachers in the state.
The Zamfara State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Wadatau Madawaki, made this known in Gusau, the state capital, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
The commissioner spoke at a stakeholders’ meeting on Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project in the state.
AGILE is a World Bank assisted project through the Federal Ministry of Education to facilitate secondary education opportunities for adolescent boys and girls aged between 10 and 20 years.
Madawaki, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Barira Ibrahim, noted that teachers’ recruitment remained one of the priority areas of the present administration in Zamfara State.
The commissioner said the decision to recruit more teachers was part of the commitment to enhance teaching and learning process in the state.

He said: “Right from the inception of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration, education has been accorded special priority towards reviving the sector.
“Very soon, we are going to embark on recruitment of 2,000 teachers across the state to bridge the gap in shortage of English language and Science subjects teachers in our schools.”
Madawaki further reiterated the readiness of Governor Lawal’s administration to give all the necessary support to AGILE Project to succeed in Zamfara State.
“We believe the project will bring positive changes to the future of adolescent boys and girls as well as future education of our dear state,” he added.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of Zamfara State Teachers’ Service Board, Muhammad Anka, commended the state government for its commitment to education sector.
Anka assured that the government would not relent in promoting teachers’ welfare in the state.
While urging teachers to remain committed to their duties, the chairman said: “More incentives are on the way to promote teachers’ condition of service through capacity building.”
In her remarks, the State Coordinator of AGILE Project, Sa’adatu Abdu-Gusau, expressed gratitude to the World Bank and Federal Ministry of Education for selecting Zamfara State to be among the benefiting states.
