2 children drown in Kano well

A six-year-old boy, Ahmad Abdurashid, has drowned in a well at Dandishe Tsamiyar Goodluck area of Dala Local Government Area, Kano State.

The spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident via a statement issued on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

Abdullahi said the incident occurred on Wednesday morning.

Abdullahi said the boy was brought out of the well dead and was handed over to his father.

The Fire Service spokesman stated that the cause of the incident was under investigation.

Abdullahi advised residents to cover their wells properly and desist from digging open wells along roadsides to prevent similar tragedies, especially in rural communities.

In another development, a girl of about eight years old drowned in a well on Tuesday morning in Kashirmo Village in Dawakin, Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.

Abdullahi stated: “We received an emergency call from Kabiru Abdullahi at about 08:53 a.m that a girl fell into a well at about 10:02 a.m.

“We immediately sent our rescue team to the scene. Ourescue team brought her out of the well, but was later confirmed dead.”
