2 friends jailed for stealing clothes

An Area Court sitting in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, has sentenced two friends, Michael Auta and Gabriel Sunday, to 12 months imprisonment each for stealing clothes.

The presiding judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convicts after they pleaded guilty to the offence on Monday, June 16, 2025.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Daniel Damulak, told the court that the case was reported at the B Division Police Station by the complainant, Gift Ernest, on April 17.

Damulak said the complainant told the police that the two friends trespassed into her shop and stole clothes valued at N488,000.

Justice Bokkos also ordered the convicts to pay compensation of N200,000 each to the complainant or risk another 12 months in prison for default.
