20 vessels to offload over 10,000 containers at Lagos Ports

No fewer than 20 vessels are scheduled to berth at Apapa, Tin Can Island and Lekki Deep Sea ports this week, bringing in a combined total of 10,273 containers, 152,017 metric tonnes of bulk and petroleum products, and 1,150 units of used vehicles.

According to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Shipping Position, APM Terminals, Apapa, will handle the highest number of container vessels, with seven ships expected, while Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) follows with four vessels.

Other shipping lines involved include Maersk, COSCO, CMA CGM, PIL, Hapag-Lloyd and Lansal.

At the weekend, six vessels berthed across Lagos ports, delivering containers, petroleum products, bulk cargo and used vehicles.

These included MSC SUN F and MSC INDIA at Tin Can Island, MATRIX PRIDE with 15,000 metric tonnes of diesel, ANNA M loading clinker for export at Apapa, JIN GUANG LING with over 23,000 metric tonnes of general cargo, and AQUAMARINE with 2,060 containers at APM Terminals.

Also, the vehicle carrier LAKE WANAKA berthed at Tin Can Island with 200 used vehicles.

Five additional vessels are expected today across the ports, including container ships at Apapa and Tin Can Island, and the SPRING C at Lekki Deep Sea Port with 480 containers.

More vessels carrying containers, bulk cargo, petroleum products and used vehicles are scheduled to arrive later in the week, including ships operated by Maersk, COSCO, CMA CGM and Grimaldi.

Industry stakeholders say the steady rise in cargo traffic reflects growing confidence in Nigeria’s seaports and signals positive outcomes from ongoing economic and port sector reforms.
