A 20-year-old man, Lekan Nurudeen, was on Friday, May 30, 2025, sentenced to prison for stealing a school bag, a three kilogramme gas cylinder, and a solar lamp.
Nurudeen was tried for conspiracy and stealing in the Bodija area of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the convict committed the crime on April 23.
Ayeni said Nurudeen was apprehended after conspiring with others now at large to break into the apartment of one James Ugwu to steal his property.
Ayeni said Nurudeen stole a school bag valued at N5,000, a three kg gas cylinder valued at N15,000, and a solar lamp valued at N5,000.
The prosecutor added that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 516, 412 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 38 vol. ii, law of Oyo State 2000.

Delivering judgement, the court’s president, O.E. Owoseni, held that the 20-year-old man was sentenced based on his guilty plea and the evidence tendered against him by the prosecutor.
Owoseni advised the convict never to go back to any form of crime after completing his jail term.
She said: “Nurudeen is sentenced to four months imprisonment for count one or an option of five months community service and four months imprisonment for count two or an option of five months of community service.
“Also, he is sentenced to four months imprisonment for count three or an option of five months of community service.
“However, sentencing shall run concurrently.”
