3 killed as youths clash with security operatives in Katsina

A clash between security operatives and youths in the Sabuwar Unguwa area of Katsina State has left three people dead and several others injured.

The incident began when police stormed a suspected hideout and arrested a man identified as Uzairu, also known as “Kuda,” over alleged drug peddling and possession of a weapon.

According to police, he resisted arrest, and some youths attacked the officers, damaged a patrol vehicle, and injured members of the team.

Amid the confrontation, Kuda sustained gunshot injuries and later died in the hospital.

Tension escalated during his funeral procession on Saturday, when suspected hoodlums reportedly set fire to an NSCDC outpost and attempted to burn a police station.

Reinforcements were deployed to restore order.

In the resulting chaos, stray bullets struck two bystanders, one of whom died.

The Katsina State Police Command has opened an investigation and appealed for calm.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered an immediate, thorough investigation to establish the facts,” Police Public Relations Officer Abubakar Aliyu Sadiq said, urging residents to remain peaceful and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
