50-year-old hacks man to death over wife in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 50-year-old Alhaji Hassan Umaru for allegedly killing a fellow villager, 45-year-old Sukari Abdul, over suspicion that the victim was involved in an affair with his wife.

Police spokesperson SP Dungus Abdulkarim said the incident occurred on February 1, 2026, at about 12:30 p.m. in Bundila Village, Gulani Local Government Area. The confrontation reportedly took place at the village market, where Umaru allegedly attacked Abdul with a cutlass.

“The victim was rushed to Bularaba Primary Health Care Facility but was confirmed dead by a medical practitioner,” Abdulkarim stated.

The suspect was promptly apprehended, and the cutlass used in the attack was recovered. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, urging that disputes—especially marital or social conflicts—should be reported to the authorities.
