Two passenger trains collided in Czech Republic on Thursday, November 20, 2025, injuring dozens of people.
Emergency services said the trains collided in a region around 132 km (82 miles) south of capital Prague.
Pictures showed mainly damage to the front ends of the trains where they hit head-on.
Firefighters were said to have later freed the driver of one of the trains.
A spokeswoman for a regional hospital told CTK that four people had been admitted with serious injuries.
Nine people suffered moderate injuries and 25 others were lightly hurt, the region’s governor, Martin Kuba, told Czech television.
Transport Minister Martin Kupka said the crash was still under investigation, adding that preliminary information revealed that one of the trains had probably passed a signal in the stop position.

Kupka wrote on X: “This morning, an express train collided with a passenger train on the line between Zlív and Divci. Emergency services are responding at the scene, and passengers are being evacuated. Reports indicate 3 seriously and approximately 40 lightly injured. I’ll continue monitoring the situation and keep you updated.
“I wish all the injured a speedy recovery. The Railway Inspectorate is already investigating the incident. According to preliminary information from the Railway Administration, the express train likely passed a signal in the STOP position.
“ETCS is planned to be introduced on this line after 2030. However, this accident also shows that we need to continue expanding modern safety systems capable of better preventing human error.”
