Security presence was significantly reinforced at the Kano State Government House on Monday following rising speculation that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf may be planning to defect from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Armed security personnel drawn from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Department of State Services (DSS) were deployed to strategic locations within and around the Government House.
Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) were also stationed at the main entrance and along the roundabout leading into the premises.
The heightened security arrangement attracted public attention amid unverified reports suggesting that the governor could soon announce a move to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
As at the time of filing this report, the Kano State Government had not issued any official statement to either confirm or refute the defection rumours.
