President Bola Tinubu has mourned veteran journalist and political analyst, Reverend Mobolade Omonijo, describing him as a journalist whose contributions to Nigeria’s media industry would be remembered for years.

Omonijo, who served on the editorial board of The Nation newspaper until his death, spent nearly four decades in journalism, working with several media organisations, including The Vanguard and The Economist.

Tinubu, in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, the media community, particularly The Nation, and the Church of God.

The President praised Omonijo’s professional integrity, incisive analysis and understanding of Nigeria’s political landscape.

“He distinguished himself in the various assignments entrusted to him throughout nearly four decades of meritorious service in journalism, earning a reputation for incisive analysis, professional integrity and a deep understanding of Nigeria’s political landscape,” the statement quoted Tinubu as saying.

Omonijo previously served as political editor of The Nation and The Vanguard, and also worked with The Economist, where he contributed to coverage and analysis of political and public affairs.

Beyond journalism, the late media professional was a clergyman who served as the Vicar of the Church of Pentecost in Dopemu, under the Diocese of Lagos West.

Tinubu prayed for the repose of Omonijo’s soul and comfort for his family and loved ones.
