Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has denied entering into any agreement with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to share legislative and local government positions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Adeleke said the political coalition involving his Accord Party and the APC was limited to securing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, insisting that candidates for other positions would compete for votes.
The governor’s position was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, in response to social media reports alleging that a deal with the Presidency involved sharing Senate, House of Representatives, state assembly and local government positions between Accord and the Osun APC.
Describing the reports as “mere fabrication and fake news,” Adeleke said he remained committed to supporting Tinubu’s re-election but would campaign for Accord candidates in the other elections.
“As I said while inaugurating the Presidential Campaign Council, the coalition is targeted at the presidential election. Partners agreed to join hands to ensure our dear President is re-elected,” the statement quoted him as saying.
“All other legislative positions are open for competition. I will work and campaign for Accord candidates for Senate, House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly.”
The governor urged political parties to campaign for their respective candidates, adding that voters would determine the outcome of the elections.
“I urge all political parties to campaign for their candidates as I will do for Accord candidates. We have no deal on the National Assembly and the State Assembly elections. All our candidates will face the electorate, who have the final say,” he said.
Adeleke also addressed the ongoing local government crisis in Osun, saying negotiations were aimed at protecting the interests of APC chairmen and elected Peoples Democratic Party chairmen and councillors.
He said the state government was working to restore grassroots governance by ensuring that the interests of all stakeholders were considered.

“As the governor of all Osun indigenes and residents, we are working to resolve the local government matter by ensuring that all interests are protected and cared for,” he said.
Adeleke expressed confidence that the dispute would be resolved before the end of the year, adding that restoring local government administration was important to the coalition’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
The clarification comes amid political realignments in Osun ahead of the general elections.
Some prominent APC leaders in the state were absent from the inauguration of a 344-member council established to coordinate Tinubu’s re-election campaign in Osun.
However, former governor Bisi Akande attended the event alongside several APC chieftains, including the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru; former National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore; former deputy governors Titi Laoye-Ponle and Lekan Adewoyin; and Senator Babajide Omoworare.
Other APC figures present included former lawmakers Ajibola Famurewa and Bukola Oyewo, former Osun Assembly Speaker Wale Afolabi, and former National Business and Technical Examinations Board Registrar, Professor Olu Aina.
