Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) on Tuesday staged a protest over the planned relocation of the Department of Anatomy and Physiology, barricading the institution’s main gate in opposition to the move.
The students, who gathered in large numbers at the campus in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, sang solidarity songs and displayed placards rejecting the university management’s decision to transfer the department from the College of Health Sciences to the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences.
Some of the placards read, “Don’t separate Physiology from Medicine,” “Protect the integrity of Medical Sciences,” and “We won’t be silenced,” reflecting concerns that the relocation could undermine the department’s medical focus.
An internal memo obtained on Tuesday indicated that the university Senate, at its meeting on January 21, 2026, approved the transfer of the Department of Anatomy and Physiology to the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences. The memo also directed that non-medical staff members move to the new faculty to aid career progression and ensure a smooth transition.
The decision, however, sparked resistance among students, who vowed to continue the protest until the management reverses the move.
Efforts to reach the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Lekan Fadeyi, for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.
