President Bola Tinubu on Friday disclosed that over 1.5 million Nigerian students have benefited from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), with more than N282 billion disbursed to support access to higher education.
Tinubu made the disclosure during his nationwide address commemorating the third anniversary of his administration.
The president said the student loan scheme was designed to ensure that no willing Nigerian student is denied higher education because of financial hardship.
“The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has provided over 1.5 million students with access to higher education, disbursing more than N282 billion to ensure that no willing student is denied access due to financial hardship,” he said.
Tinubu also highlighted progress recorded under his administration’s social intervention programmes, particularly in housing, healthcare and youth empowerment.
According to him, the Renewed Hope Housing Programme and projects by the Federal Housing Authority are delivering over 10,000 housing units across 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
He added that the initiative has already created more than 300,000 jobs, while major Renewed Hope Cities in Abuja, Lagos and Kano are progressing steadily.

On healthcare, Tinubu said thousands of primary healthcare centres are being revitalised across the country, while health insurance coverage is being expanded for vulnerable Nigerians.
Tinubu further stated that agricultural interventions by the federal government had supported millions of farmers through improved seedlings, fertilisers, mechanisation, irrigation, and expanded access to finance and markets.
Addressing Nigerian youths, Tinubu said his administration remains committed to expanding opportunities in technology, agriculture, manufacturing, sports and entrepreneurship.
“To our young people, I want you to know this nation believes in you. You are not a problem to be managed. You are the engine of Nigeria’s future,” he said.
