The convoy of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, was allegedly obstructed by suspected thugs shortly after arriving in Benue State on Tuesday.

Obi’s campaign photographer, Esther Umoh, raised the alarm in a post on X, accompanied by videos purportedly showing the incident.

According to Umoh, the convoy encountered the alleged obstruction on Boko Road, near the Air Force Base, shortly after entering the state.

She claimed the men were allegedly sponsored and had blocked the road in an attempt to stop Obi from gaining access to parts of Benue.

“We have just arrived in Benue State, where alleged sponsored thugs have blocked Boko Road by the Air Force Base, attempting to prevent Peter Obi from gaining access to the state,” Umoh said.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged incident, including the identities of those involved and whether any arrests were made, were not immediately clear.

There was also no immediate independent confirmation of the allegation as of the time of filing this report.
