According to the police, the report was lodged at the Bode-Osi Divisional Police Station on September 1, 2026, prompting detectives to commence an investigation.

Ojelabi said intelligence gathered during the investigation led to Kasali’s arrest on September 7.

The police spokesperson said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation that he killed his mother on August 31.

According to the statement, Kasali claimed that his mother had repeatedly referred to him as a mad person and had threatened to lease the family farmland, which he regarded as the household’s major source of livelihood.

The police said the suspect allegedly told investigators that he slit his mother’s throat with a machete before burying her body in a shallow grave on the farm.

Following the confession, Ojelabi said police operatives took the suspect to the farm, where they recovered the deceased’s remains from the grave.

The machete allegedly used in the killing was also recovered at the scene, according to the command.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the case.

Zungura said the suspect would be prosecuted after the conclusion of the investigation and assured residents that the command would pursue justice in accordance with the law.

The police also urged members of the public to report missing persons promptly and provide security agencies with information about suspicious activities that could assist investigations and prevent crimes.
