Three persons have been killed and seven others injured in two separate road crashes involving a tricycle, a patrol van and a truck in Ogun State.

The accidents occurred on Saturday at the Kam Steel axis of the Sagamu–Ikorodu Expressway and the Agarawu, Winners axis of the Ota–Idiroko Road.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incidents in a traffic update.

Akinbiyi said the first crash occurred at about 4:10 p.m. at the Kam Steel axis of the Sagamu–Ikorodu Expressway, leaving a woman dead and two others injured.

He explained that the accident happened when a patrol van emerged from the Kam Steel access road onto the highway and collided with a tricycle, causing it to somersault.

“The pick-up van came out of the Kam Steel Road into the highway and collided with the tricycle, which somersaulted as a result.

“Eight people were involved; one female adult died while two other female adults sustained varying degrees of injuries,” he said.

The injured victims were taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, while the deceased was deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

In the second crash, two persons, including a man and a woman, were killed while seven others sustained injuries following a collision between a yellow Howo truck and a TVS tricycle at the Agarawu, Winners axis of the Ota–Idiroko Road.

Akinbiyi said the accident occurred at about 3:25 p.m. and was reportedly caused by brake failure, which made the truck driver lose control.

“According to the eyewitness account, the brake of the Howo truck failed, and the driver lost control and collided with the tricycle.
