The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force Committee on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has seized 3.18 million capsules of pregabalin during an operation at Apple Avenue, Nomansland, Kano.

The committee said the consignment, suspected to be intended for illegal sale and drug abuse, was recovered on Saturday, November 7, as part of efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the state.

In a statement, the chairman of the task force, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, said investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend those behind the consignment.

He described the seizure as a major blow to drug trafficking operators, assuring residents that the committee would intensify its crackdown on drug networks, their sponsors and suppliers.

“Let me assure the people of Kano that this is a major blow to the drug barons. Every capsule taken off the street is a life, a family and a future protected.

“We will pursue everyone involved, and we will not rest until our communities are free from drugs,” Rimingado said.

The committee said the operation underscored the Kano State Government’s determination to prevent the state from becoming a hub for the distribution of dangerous drugs.

It also called on residents, community leaders, religious leaders, parents and youths to support the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The task force urged members of the public to report suspicious activities, drug dealers and stockpiles to the nearest security outpost.

It further advised parents to monitor their children and residents to remain vigilant in their neighbourhoods, warning against involvement in drug trafficking and sales.

The committee maintained that the fight against drug abuse was a collective responsibility requiring the cooperation of all residents to protect young people and safeguard the future of the state.
