A retired diplomat, Amb. Emmanuel Okafor, has been elected as the President of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI).

Okafor polled 114 votes to defeat Muyiwa Odejayi, who scored 91 votes, at the AANI 43rd annual general meeting held at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru-Jos, Plateau State, on Saturday, June 24, 2023.

Olufunke Amos was elected unopposed as Vice President of the association, while Abubakar Ismail Isa, won the position of Secretary General with 107 votes, surpassing Rear Admiral Elkannah Oyeleye Jaiyeola (rtd), who scored 96 votes.

Dr Babatunde Moses Kayode was elected unopposed as the Assistant Secretary General, Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman (rtd) was also returned unopposed as the National Publicity Secretary,  while Maryamu Laka Madami was elected unopposed as the Financial Secretary.

Samaila Umar Sifawa was re-elected as the National Treasurer, Dr. Favour Ngozi Ugwuanyi was elected as the Welfare/Social Welfare Secretary, Tijjani Inuwa Dutse was elected AANI Legal Adviser, while Dr Nurudeen Abba Abdullahi was elected unopposed as Internal Auditor.

Other electoral committee members include Aisha Dankani, Rear Admiral FO Isaac, Dr Effiok Archibong, and MB Saleh.

The new Executive Committee (EXCO) members were however sworn in by the former Vice President of AANI, Aisha Dankani.
