The wife of Terwase Orbunde, the former Chief of Staff to the ex-governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, and her house help, who were abducted by gunmen in Makurdi, the state capital, last Friday, have regained their freedom.
Abigail Kashimana Orbunde, and Patience Ogute, regained freedom from captivity on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, after an undisclosed amount was paid as ransom to their abductors who had demanded N100 million.
The captives spent four days in captivity before their release.
It was gathered that the victims had been reunited with some of their family members and taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Gunmen attack governorship aspirant, kidnap wife, maid
The gunmen on Friday, April 12, attacked Orbunde, a former governorship aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, and abducted his wife and house help.
The attack took place along Mobile Barracks-Welfare Quarters Road in Makurdi.
The former Chief of Staff escaped with a gunshot on his right arm while the attackers whisked away his wife and cook.
Speaking on the incident, Abigail expressed gratitude to God for their release, adding that they walked a long distance in the bush without food and water.
Her husband, who is receiving treatment in hospital for gunshot wounds, thanked God and all those who stood with the family through prayers and financial contributions that, he said, secured the victims’ release.
