Abiodun approves weekly day off, N10,000 transport relief for Ogun workers

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved a weekly day off and a N10,000 monthly transport allowance for civil servants in the state, as part of measures to ease the financial burden of rising fuel prices and soaring living costs.

The intervention, which takes effect from April 2026, will run for three months and applies to workers across the state’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Head of Service Kehinde Onasanya, who announced the measures in a statement on Thursday, said the governor acted in response to the hardship imposed on workers by the recent hike in fuel pump prices and its ripple effect on transportation costs and general living standards.

“Towards providing succour to the teeming workforce of Ogun State in light of the hike in the pump price of fuel and its attendant impact on the cost of transportation and general standard of living, Governor Abiodun has graciously approved one day off duty in a week for workers in the state,” Onasanya said.

However, workers on essential duties — including medical personnel, judicial staff, teachers, security personnel, and heads of departments — will be exempted from the weekly day-off arrangement, though they will still be entitled to the N10,000 transport allowance.

Onasanya added that accounting officers in each MDA would determine the specific day off for eligible workers to ensure that service delivery is not disrupted.

The Head of Service commended the governor for what he described as a timely intervention and called on workers to reciprocate the gesture with improved dedication and productivity.
