Again, gunmen kidnap Ango Abdullahi’s relatives, others

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have again kidnapped relatives of the convener of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Prof. Ango Abdullahi, and other villagers in Yakawada, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The bandits were said to have stormed the village in their large number on motorcycles on Tuesday night, attacked the residence of the village head, Alhaji Rilwanu Saidu, and whisked people away from his household.

It would be recalled that Sadiq Abdullahi, a son of the NEF convener, was kidnapped during the March 28 attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train before he was released a month ago.

A resident confirmed to journalists that the bandits also abducted some villagers in the Tuesday attack.

“They also went to the residence of the neighbour to the village head and kidnapped Abubakar Mijinyawa along with his two wives, Aisha and Hajara. And the two wives are both nursing mothers who were abducted with their babies,” the local, who craved anonymity, said.

He added that the bandits killed one patrol guard, Aminu Lawal, during the attack.

Prof. Abdullahi confirmed on Wednesday that his daughter-in-law and four children were abducted by the gunmen.

“My daughter-in-law, Ramatu Samaila, was among the abductees including her four children. She is the wife of my son who is the village head of Yakawada,” he said.

It was gathered that three other persons were wounded during the attack and were hospitalised at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria, Kaduna State.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muhammad Jalige, said he was yet to be briefed on the attack.

Jalige, however, promised to contact the police division covering the area for details of the incident.
