The Nigeria Police Force has deployed top security chiefs, including Assistant Inspector General of Police Muhammad Hussaini Gumel and Kaduna State Commissioner of Police Mohammed Rabi’u, to oversee Thursday’s rerun election in Kaura-Namoda South Constituency, Zamfara State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) scheduled the rerun in five polling units of Sakajiki and Kyambarawa wards after more than 3,000 votes were cancelled during last Saturday’s bye-election.
Addressing officers in Gusau, AIG Gumel assured that the police, working alongside other agencies such as the FRSC, Correctional Service, and Federal Fire Service, would guarantee the safety of voters, INEC staff, and election materials.
He urged personnel to act professionally, avoid misconduct, and warned against political interference at polling units and collation centres.
CP Rabi’u also cautioned against vote buying, political thuggery, and possession of weapons near polling stations, stressing that movement in affected areas would be restricted to ensure a peaceful and credible exercise.
