The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai has neutralised several terrorists during a coordinated air response to an attack on troops of the 120 Battalion under Sector 2 in Goniri, Yobe State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 12:15 a.m. on Monday when insurgents attempted to overrun the military position.
According to the sources, the terrorists infiltrated the Goniri base and engaged troops in a fierce gun battle after breaching the defensive perimeter.
“Upon receiving the distress call from troops on the ground, the Air Component immediately scrambled fighter aircraft to provide close air support,” a source said.
The aircraft reportedly located the attackers around the base and carried out precision strikes on their positions.
“The fighter jets dropped two bombs on the insurgents’ locations with devastating accuracy, killing at least 10 terrorists who attempted to flee after sighting the aircraft,” the source added.
The swift air response disrupted the attack and helped restore the tactical advantage to troops defending the base.
