Algeria’s president sacks prime minister, names replacement

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has terminated the appointment of Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui.

The president, on Thursday, August 28, 2025, also appointed Industry Minister Sifi Ghrieb as acting head of the government.

Larbaoui, a former diplomat, was appointed prime minister in 2023 by Tebboune.

No reason was given for Larbaoui’s departure, Reuters reported.

The gas-producing North African country, which is an energy supplier for several European countries, has been seen as politically stable in recent years.
