International observers and civil society organisations (CSOs) have commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the transparent and peaceful conduct of the ongoing Anambra State Governorship Election.
Reports from accredited observer groups monitored by INEC’s Situation Room in Abuja indicated early arrival of materials, smooth BVAS operation, and impressive voter turnout across polling units.
Observers praised INEC’s coordination under its Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, describing the poll as credible and well-managed.
Ambassador Emmanuel Nkweke of the International Association of World Peace Advocates said the process was “peaceful and efficient,” lauding the professionalism of INEC officials and security agencies.
“Accreditation is smooth, BVAS is functioning properly, and the environment is calm,” he said.
Yiaga Africa’s Director of Programmes, Cynthia Mbamalu, also hailed INEC’s early deployment, noting that voting began as early as 8:30 a.m. in most areas.
Similarly, Hon. Dominic Okafor and TAF Africa’s founder, Jake Epelle, described the exercise as seamless and violence-free.
Observers attributed the success to INEC’s robust preparations, including a record 98.8% Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection rate — with 2,769,137 out of 2,802,790 registered voters collecting their cards.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Amupitan, expressed satisfaction with the process, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to credible and inclusive elections.
“The Anambra election demonstrates our resolve to ensure that every valid vote counts,” he said.
Both local and international monitors described the election as a milestone for Nigeria’s democracy and a reflection of growing public trust in INEC’s leadership.
