APC primaries: Tinubu calls for cohesion as aspirants adopt consensus candidate

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday met with All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and governorship aspirants from Osun State, urging them to embrace unity and consensus-building ahead of the party’s primary election scheduled for December 13.

The meeting, held at the State House in Abuja, brought together prominent Osun APC aspirants, including former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), Babatunde Hareter Oralusi, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh, and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

Also present were APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Hope Uzodimma, and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola.

During the engagement, President Tinubu praised the aspirants for their contributions to the party in Osun State and urged them to support the consensus candidate that emerges from the primaries.

He cautioned against the internal divisions that led to the party’s loss in the last governorship election, emphasizing the importance of party supremacy, unity, and collective responsibility.

“You all have a duty and obligation to the party by ensuring the candidate of our party wins the next election in Osun State.

“Strengthen the bonds of unity, party supremacy, and collective responsibility.

“You have my support and that of the National leadership of APC to win the coming election,” the President said.

At the conclusion of the meeting, all aspirants and party leaders issued a joint statement pledging to uphold the party’s supremacy, accept the outcome of the nomination process, and support the consensus candidate.

The statement also committed the aspirants to maintaining peace, unity, and cohesion within the APC, and to working collectively to ensure the party’s victory in the upcoming governorship election.

The declaration, signed by all aspirants and APC leaders, underscored their loyalty to the party and their commitment to the guidance of President Tinubu and the National Chairman in the interest of Osun State’s progress and stability.
