Army arrests notorious drug courier in Kogi

Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have intercepted a major drug courier transporting a large consignment of cannabis from Ekiti State to Obajana in Kogi State.

This was revealed in a statement issued by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi and shared with journalists in Lokoja.

According to the statement, soldiers stationed at the Agbede Response Area conducted a routine stop-and-search on a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158 AU.

The vehicle, driven by Mr. Johnson Ayo, had a branded police hat and belt displayed on the dashboard, prompting further scrutiny.

A thorough search uncovered 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa weighing 108.8 kilograms, carefully concealed inside the vehicle.

Abdullahi noted that preliminary investigations show that large-scale drug movements of this kind provide financial backing for criminal networks and often fuel activities that escalate into banditry within Kogi and surrounding states.

The suspect and the seized items have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi State Command, for further investigation and appropriate action.

The Army added that it remains committed to supporting national efforts to combat drug trafficking, disrupt criminal supply chains, enhance public safety, and maintain a secure environment for Nigerians.
