Atiku: Why my WAEC certificate has different name

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has explained the discrepancies in his Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) certificate.

There have been reactions to the WAEC certificate of Atiku which has the name “Sadiq Abubakar” as against his other credentials.

This followed the debates on the certificate of President Bola Tinubu which was recently released by the Chicago State University (CSU) in the United States to the PDP presidential candidate.

Some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in defence of Tinubu’s credentials, accused Atiku, a former Vice President, of forging his certificate.

However, the PDP presidential standard-bearer, while reacting via his aide and veteran journalist, Dele Momodu, said he had sworn an affidavit that he wrote the examination with the name.

Momodu, in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, noted that he forwarded the accusations to Atiku, who also provided an answer for the discrepancy.

He stated: ”The APC busybodies have been bombarding me with allegations of forgery against my Principal, ALHAJI ATIKU ABUBAKAR (GCON), which I immediately forwarded to him and here is his copious response: ‘Yes I used Sadiq Abubakar to sit for my WAEC and after passing my exams I went to swear an affidavit to say I am the same person as ATIKU Abubakar. I went to ABU as Atiku Abuakar and passed my Exams as Atiku Abubakar. Interviewed as Atiku Abubakar by the Federal Civil Service Commission and hired into the Customs Service as Atiku Abubakar. So where is forgery there?’ – ATIKU ABUBAKAR
