Baba-Ahmed to Femi Kuti: Obi’s records against corruption should be your focus

The vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Datti Baba-Ahmed, says he and his principal, Peter Obi, have sufficiently explained their understanding of Nigeria corruption and how to uproot it in the country’s system.

Baba-Ahmed said Obi has spoken severally that corruption in Nigeria is entrenched because of “poor leadership at the top”.

He made this known via a statement issued on Tuesday by his media office, in reaction to Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Femi Kuti’s statement that he was not fully convinced about the candidacy of Peter Obi “because he has not spoken about corruption”.

The LP vice-presidential candidate said: “The great Musician is perhaps expecting the old order where issue of corruption dominated discussions in our polity but ended up getting worse.

“Obi has said umpteenth times that corruption in Nigeria is entrenched because of poor leadership at the top.

“He is on record to have said that corruption will vanish in Nigeria the moment the President and any members of his family, friends, and associates are channeled to act properly with public funds.

“It’s not enough to be shouting I will wipe corruption when corrupt money is guiding and directing all your activities in and out of power and corrupt persons as your sponsors and shields.

“Obi has personal antecedents on corruption, in private sector where he was the youngest Nigerian to Chair the board of a post-consolidation bank and for eight years as Governor of Anambra State where he left huge money in investment and cash with no trace of embezzling public funds.

“These records should be the focus of Fela Kuti especially as Obi and his running mate have verifiable background and track records,” Baba-Ahmed stated.
