Nigeria’s oil output rises to 1.68m bpd, meets OPEC quota for fourth month

Nigeria’s crude oil and condensate production rose to 1,677,777 barrels per day in August 2026, marking the fourth consecutive month the country met its Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries production quota.

The latest output represents a 0.4 per cent increase from the 1,671,000 barrels per day recorded in July.

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by its Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu.

The regulator said crude oil production, excluding condensates, stood at 1,500,190 barrels per day during the month.

It attributed the improvement largely to the resolution of operational challenges involving the Single Buoy Mooring at the Erha field, which had affected production in July.

“The restoration of normal evacuation and production operations at the asset contributed positively to overall production volumes during the period under review,” the commission said.

The NUPRC added that production across most other producing assets remained relatively stable, with operators continuing efforts to improve efficiency, maintain asset integrity and reduce operational disruptions.

Daily crude oil and condensate production ranged from 1.64 million barrels at its lowest to 1.71 million barrels at its peak in August.

The Bonny Terminal recorded the highest average output at 320.04 thousand barrels per day, followed by Forcados with 317.40 thousand barrels per day.

Qua Iboe Terminal produced an average of 171.72 thousand barrels per day, while Escravos recorded 131.71 thousand barrels per day. Bonga ranked fifth with an average of 92.50 thousand barrels per day of crude oil.

Despite the month-on-month increase, August’s output was 57,621 barrels per day below the 1,735,398 barrels per day recorded in June.

The regulator said the performance reflected ongoing efforts to address operational bottlenecks and restore affected production capacity.

It added that stakeholders remained focused on improving asset reliability, operational resilience and intervention programmes to support sustained production growth.

Nigeria’s oil output remains central to government efforts to boost revenue, increase foreign exchange earnings and maintain compliance with its OPEC production quota.
