The Chairman of Badagry Local Government Area, Babatunde Humpe, has urged members of the Christ Morning Star Society (CMS), Lagos State chapter, to uphold the values associated with the name of Jesus Christ by serving as shining examples within the church and the wider society.
Humpe gave the charge while speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the 45th anniversary celebration of the CMS Society in Lagos.
Speaking at the event held at the Cathedral Church of St. Thomas Badagry on Sunday, September 13, 2026, Humpe said members of the society have consistently demonstrated commitment to the work of God and should continue to strengthen their support for both the Church and humanity.
“I have observed the activities of your society right from my days as the People’s Warden of the church. You have demonstrated uncommon love for the work of God, and I charge you to continue to do more,” he said.
He further urged members to extend their charitable activities beyond the church by supporting efforts aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.

“As you support the work of God, continue to extend this love to humanity by supporting government at all levels in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. I am impressed with the annual palliative programme you organise for the less privileged in our churches. Please continue,” Humpe added.
The chairman also stressed the importance of prayers and constructive engagement with leaders, noting that government alone cannot meet all the needs of the people.
In his sermon, the Dean of the Cathedral, Ven. Dickson Ilegbusi, commended the activities of the society and urged members to continue reflecting the light of God through their actions and commitment to the propagation of the Gospel.
As part of the anniversary celebration, the Lagos chapter of the society, led by its President, Olusegun Sobowale, distributed food palliatives to indigent families within the church and the surrounding community.
