Bandit attack illegal mining site in Zamfara

Armed bandits struck an illegal mining site in Kokamba, Magami District of Gusau Local Government Area, Zamfara State, leaving one miner dead.

The attack occurred on Wednesday, at about 1:30 p.m., when the assailants opened fire on workers at the site before escaping.

Residents later carried the victim’s body to a nearby village, sparking tension as some youths attempted to launch a reprisal attack on Fulani settlers.

Security operatives from the Magami outpost swiftly intervened to prevent escalation and restored calm.

Authorities have appealed to residents to remain vigilant, avoid taking laws into their hands, and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
