Suspected armed bandits launched a deadly ambush on a police Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) patrol team in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, resulting in the death of one officer and injuries to another.

The attack occurred around 12:30 p.m. on June 19, near Government Science Secondary School along the Kankara–Kafi Road.

The patrol team was reportedly on a farm clearance operation when they came under sudden gunfire.

Sources revealed to Zagazola Makama that the patrol team engaged the attackers in a fierce gunfight.

During the exchange, Inspector Yahaya Bello sustained fatal injuries and was later confirmed dead by medical personnel at the General Hospital in Kankara.

Another officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sani Suleiman, who is attached to 27 PMF Katsina, was also shot during the attack.
