Bandits kidnap 2 councillors, one Imam in Zamfara

Bandits have abducted two councillors and an Imam in Tsauni community, Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State.

The Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

Abubakar disclosed that the councillors, representing Gidan Gona and Tsibiri wards in Maradun Local Government Areas of Zamfaara State and the Imam of the community were abducted by bandits on Wednesday night.

Abubakar said the victims were kidnapped in front of their houses in Tsauni area at about 7:00 p.m. shortly after prayers.

Bandit attack illegal mining site in Zamfara

Tsauni community is located behind the Federal Road Safety Corps, Zamfara Sector command headquarters in Gusau.

The community had hosted Internally Displaced Persons affected by armed banditry from different communities.

Abubakar, however, said the command had deployed its operatives to the area, adding that are ongoing to rescue the three victims.

The police spokesman urged residents of the area to assist the police with relevant information in good time to curtail such incidents.
