Bandits kill 12, abduct women, children in Sokoto

Bandits have killed no fewer than 12 people and abducted women ​and children during an ‌attack on Lajinge in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Residents disclosed that bandits entered the village of Lajinge at about ​11 p.m. on Saturday and attacked residents until about 3 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026.

One of the residents said six members of one ​family were burned to death after ​the assailants set fire to their ⁠house.

“They killed at least 12 people, injured four others, abducted women ​and children ​after rustling ⁠many livestock,” a resident, Auwal Hassan, said on Sunday.

Speaking, the Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Rufai, said police ​were investigating and would provide ​updates ⁠later.

The attack comes a week after bandits ⁠killed ​no fewer than 24 farmers ​in neighbouring Zamfara State.
