Bandits have killed five police officers and three Community Protection Guards (CPGs) on patrol along the Gusau-Funtuwa road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara state.
It was gathered that the victims were killed during an attack on Thursday evening.
Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal confirmed the incident via a post on his Facebook page.
The governor wrote: “To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.

“I have received a bad report of the gunfire that was killed by police officers and Askarawa on Funtuwa road to Gusau where they killed eight officers.
“May Allah (T) rest in peace, and give the family and relatives the fortitude to bear this loss.
“We pray to God to bring an end to this security problem in Zamfara State, Northern and Nigerians.”
