Bandits kill policeman, kidnap 15 in Zamfara

Bandits have killed a policeman attached to the Maru Police Division in an attack on Ruwandoruwa in the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

It was gathered that the bandits also abducted 15 persons, including the wife of the district head of the community during the attack which occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2023.

A resident of the community, Abdullahi Ruwandoruwa, disclosed that the gunmen shot indiscriminately after they stormed the community.

He said a mobile policeman was shot in front of the district head’s residence while attempting to defend the house.

Ruwandoruwa said the bandits initially planned to kidnap the district head but they could not locate him, adding that the assailants later abducted his wife.

“They found their way to the district head’s house after which they shot a policeman in front of the house.

“They did not meet the district head at home, but they found his wife and took her away,” the resident told Channels Television.

Ruwandoruwa added that the bandits are yet to contact the community for ransom on the abducted residents.

Meanwhile, the Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, has yet to speak on the incident as of press time.

Zamfara is one of several states in northwestern Nigeria terrorised by bandits, who raid villages, kill, and abduct residents as well as burn homes after looting them.

The bandits have also been notorious for mass kidnappings of students from schools in recent years.
